As a general in the army he proved his grand military skills. After his accession to the throne in 1873, Albert, now as a monarch, played a big role in encouraging the social development of Saxony. The 30 years of his reign fell in the age of the industrialization of Germany, in which Saxony developed to an economic heavyweight.
